SAN LUIS OBISPO — In October, Cal Poly Corporation sponsored Mustang News’ “100 Years of Delivering the News” celebration. The two-day event commemorated the 100th anniversary of student media at Cal Poly.

“We are proud to support student media and its vital role on campus,” said Lorlie Leetham, executive director for the Cal Poly Corporation.

As a Community Sponsor of the event, the corporation’s $3,000 donation supported audio visual, graphics and printed materials for the celebration. The sponsorship also contributed to the Journalism Endowment, which helps fund The Jim Hayes Symposium, a forum for advancing integrity in journalism and communication.

The anniversary celebration included a series of events over the course of the weekend –  featuring media experts, showcasing innovations in journalism and supporting student success in media. The Spotlight Gala featured keynote speaker and former Boston Globe editor, Ben Bradlee Jr., whose reporting inspired the Academy Award winning film, “Spotlight.”

At the gala, journalism faculty inducted four members into the Mustang Media Hall of Fame. Inductees included comic musician and Cal Poly graduate “Weird Al” Yankovic, three-time Pulitzer winning reporter George Ramos, former California Secretary of State Bruce McPherson and former Cal Poly President Robert E. Kennedy.
