<h2>Renovations and food concept changes underway as new dining complex is built</h2>
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Campus Dining has several changes in store for students this fall. With the new Vista Grande dining complex under construction, updates are being made to many of the university’s current dining locations to provide a variety of dining options in the interim. The new dining complex, which replaces the 43-year-old Vista Grande facility, will break ground in November and is set for completion in Fall 2018.
“As we strive to build <a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/newdiningcomplex/">a better dining experience</a> for our campus community, we are fully committed to meeting all of Cal Poly’s dining needs throughout the transition,” said Lorlie Leetham, executive director for the Cal Poly Corporation and associate vice president of commercial services. “We are making some truly innovative upgrades to our current venues. Not only will these changes allow us to increase dining capacity, they will enable us to maximize and diversify our fresh, healthful food offerings for students, faculty and staff.”
<a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/theavenue/">The Avenue</a> will extend its hours to serve the late-night crowd that traditionally dined at Vista Grande. In addition, The Avenue’s floorplan is being redesigned to accommodate more guests and an extra checkout station. Customers will also find a complete transformation of three of The Avenue’s former venues. <a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/bishopsburgers/">Bishop’s Burgers</a>, a California-style burger spot, will replace Fusion Bowl; <a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/picos/">Picos</a>, a Cali Fresh Mex restaurant, will replace City Deli; and <a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/zenbowl/">Zen Bowl</a>, an Asian-style bowl restaurant, will replace Tapango’s.
The University Union will also see some changes as Ciao! restaurant gets a new look and a new name:<a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/MustangStation/">Mustang Station</a>. The restaurant will continue to serve pizza and calzones and will expand its menu to include appetizers as well as beer and wine for customers 21 and older. Connected to <a href="https://www.mustanglanes.com/">Mustang Lanes</a>, Mustang Station will provide an on-campus hub for food, drink and entertainment.
Myron’s, a new white table-cloth restaurant, is also launching this fall and will be located upstairs in building 19. Named after Cal Poly’s founder Myron Angel, the spot will feature a rotational menu of fresh, local American cuisine. Another way Campus Dining will be growing its dining options is with the introduction of two mobile food trucks that will service different areas of campus throughout the day. The <a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/centralcoaster/">Central Coaster</a> will serve seasonally-inspired, local food options; and a Starbucks© truck will also be on campus. Both trucks will be trackable via the Campus Dining Twitter handle and the hashtag #CentralCoaster and #starbucks, respectively.
Campus Market is being redesigned to allow for increased access and efficiency. The store is also enhancing its product mix to include a wider selection of fresh, whole foods and Cal Poly products, which will be featured at the front of the market for added convenience.
<a href="https://www.calpolydining.com/sandwichfactory/">Sandwich Factory</a> is also revamping its layout and will expand and customize its product offerings.

Ciao! restaurant to become Mustang Station – the official gathering spot on campus
SAN LUIS OBISPO – A new kind of gathering spot is taking shape at Cal Poly, just in time for fall. Mustang Station is slated to take over the former Ciao! location in the University Union – and will be a first-of-its-kind food and beverage space for the Cal Poly community.
As part of the university’s vision for an academically and socially connected campus, Mustang Station will blend food, drink and entertainment, while providing an ideal place for the Mustang community to gather. The venue will offer a comfortable, relaxed setting to grab a bite to eat and spend time with friends. In addition, customers 21 years and up can order a beer or glass of wine.
“Mustang Station was conceived to create a central hub for socializing on campus,” said Lorlie Leetham, executive director for the Cal Poly Corporation and associate vice president for commercial services. “The restaurant will be a fun, convenient spot for Mustangs fans to meet up before and after sporting events. The energy will be warm and welcoming.”
With the clear Mustang presence in its name and décor, Mustang Station will embrace and embody Cal Poly school spirit. The large screen televisions will be ideal for viewing of sporting and other events. The menu will be expanded to include a variety of appetizers as well as beer and wine on tap, in addition to the familiar pizza and calzones. Inside Mustang Station, Red Radish will continue to feature its popular made-to-order salads. Mustang Lanes will be included in the food, beer and wine service area, enabling customers to bring food and beverages purchased at Mustang Station and Red Radish into the bowling alley while they bowl.
According to Leetham, the availability of beer and wine in the University Union has received a broad level of support. Nonetheless, several measures are being taken to ensure service is offered in a safe, effective manner. The restaurant will uphold a responsible beverage service system, including extensive training and identification procedures. There will also be active supervision of beer and wine consumption, and any violations will be subject to review by the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
Leetham said that beer and wine service is not new to Cal Poly. Beer and wine have been served at Cal Poly for the past eight years during evening hours at Vista Grande/Sage, and have been served even longer at the Performing Arts Center and other catered events. In addition, students 21 and older are allowed to consume alcohol in certain on-campus apartments, provided they meet specific conditions set by campus housing.
“Mustang Station is a concept that has proven quite successful at other campuses,” said Leetham. “It also exemplifies a true collaboration between our students and the university.”
According to Leetham, the idea for Mustang Station was developed in partnership with key university stakeholders including the University Union Advisory Board, which is comprised primarily of students. “More than 3,400 students were involved in naming Mustang Station,” said Leetham, referencing significant student participation in the interactive polling process.
Mustang Station is initially set to be open until 10 p.m. on weekdays and 12 a.m. on weekends; however, hours may change at the restaurant’s discretion.

Ciao! restaurant to become Mustang Station – the official gathering spot on campus

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA &amp;mdash On April 22, Earth Day, Campus Dining working with Coca-Cola will erect an &#8220;Eko Lounge&#8221; in the lower plaza of the University Union. The Eko Lounge is an interactive experience that is made of recyclable/reusable materials. Coca-Cola representatives at the event will be wearing shirts made out of plant bottles for example.
At the Lounge, students, faculty and staff can sample Coca-Cola brands &#8211; Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Powerade, Vitamin Water and Dasani. They can also engage in games and other activities as well as gain information about Coke&#8217;s recycling and environmental efforts. On a global level, Coca-Cola has four main strategic priorities related to the environment &#8211; water stewardship, energy and climate, packaging, and agriculture.
